Dean Martin character jug modeled by Robert I. Tabbenor and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in 1989 commissioned by UK International Ceramics for a planned The Rat Pack Collection. Dean Martin (1917 -- 1995) was an American singer, film actor and comedian. He was one of the members of the "Rat Pack" and a major star in four areas of show business; concert stage/night clubs, recordings, motion pictures, and television. Born Dino Paul Crocetti in Steubenville, Ohio to Italian immigrant parents, at fifteen he was a boxer billed as "Kid Crochet", while at the same time singing with local bands, calling himself "Dino Martini." He seemed destined to remain on the nightclub circuit until he met a comic named Jerry Lewis in New York, where both men were performing. Martin and Lewis formed a fast friendship which led to the ultimate formation of a successful music-comedy team that lasted ten years. As a recording artist, Martin's number one hit songs included "Standing on a Corner", "Everybody Loves Somebody" and "That's Amore". Martin is remembered more for his long running The Dean Martin Show on television than for his three dozen movies. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Martin and Frank Sinatra, along with friends Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford, and Sammy David, Jr., formed the legendary Rat Pack. In February 2009, Martin was honored with a posthumous Grammy award for Lifetime Achievement. A Rat Pack record, microphone, and filmstrip form the handle of the jug.
