Bessie toby jug - Lefton China circa 1970

Bessie toby jug produced by Lefton China of Chicago, Illinois, circa 1970. Bessie and Bess are cow nicknames that evolved from Bos. While there isn't a definitive origin for the change, Bessie has become a common variation for Bossy on American farms due to the corruption of the Latin word Bos. This sweet cow is dressed in flowers for Spring. Her tail curls up to form the handle of the jug.
