Begging Dog toby jug - Wasmuel circa 1890

Begging Dog majolica toby jug produced by Wasmuel of Wasmuel, Belgium, circa 1890. This begging dog is dressed in a four cornered hat and is holding a whip in his paws. The ornate collar and dog tag says that this dog is well loved and perhaps is a valuable source of income for the family as he begs on the streets. The dog's tail curls up to form the handle of the jug. The Begging Dog was designed by Wasmuel's principal artist Frederic Thurner.
