Abraham Lincoln prototype toby jug produced by Masons of Hanley, England, circa 1975. Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) was an American lawyer and statesman who served as the 16th president of the United States from 1861 until his assassination in 1865. Lincoln led the nation through the American Civil War and succeeded in preserving the Union, abolishing slavery, bolstering the federal government, and modernizing the U.S. economy. In his hands he holds the broken chains of slavery and the Emancipation Proclamation forms the handle of the jug. This is one of ten known prototype toby jugs produced by Masons in the mid 1970s but never put into production.
