Heron with Fish large figural majolica pitcher produced by Minton circa 1870, standing 21" tall.  This feeding heron has plucked a brown trout from the stream.  The writhing trout forms both the spout and the handle of the pitcher.  Designed by Hugues Protat, a French sculptor and noted Minton designer, his signature can be found impressed between the talons of the herons's left foot.  This is one of the most spectacular majolica pitchers produced and its a museum quality piece.
