This is a large size modern majolica satirical toby jug, or barbotine, depicting a French politician. With "A hue et a dia" on the shield in front of him, loosely translated as "in all directions" or "in opposite directions", this politician obviouly eagerly goes along with the prevailing political winds. Produced by the Faiencerie d'Art de la Sorgue of France in the mid to late 1900s, this jug's design was inspired by the early 1900s jugs of the french pottery of Onnaing. Standing around 10" tall, this jug is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
